Cemetery Map & Sections

Visitor orientation, section descriptions, and practical information for navigating the grounds respectfully.

A layered landscape shaped over time

The cemetery grounds combine historic and more recent burial areas, internal paths, mature trees, and monument groupings that reflect different eras of interment. Visitors will notice variation in marker style, lot arrangement, and landscaping from one section to another.

Because older cemetery sections often follow earlier pathways and family plot arrangements, not every area reads like a modern grid. The office can help visitors interpret plot references and direct them to the appropriate section.

How to prepare your visit

  • Bring the full name of the deceased and approximate burial date if known.
  • Contact the office in advance for section assistance on older burials.
  • Allow extra time when visiting historic areas with dense monument groupings.
  • Wear footwear suited to uneven grass and changing seasonal conditions.

General areas visitors may encounter

The following descriptions are intended as a visitor guide rather than a legal plot map.

Historic Core

Older monuments and founding families

Typically the most historically significant area, with upright headstones, older family names, and denser monument placement connected to the cemetery's earliest decades.

Family Sections

Traditional plot groupings

These areas often contain companion monuments, multi-generational family lots, and established memorial plantings.

Veteran Memorial Areas

Military remembrance

Several graves and memorial markers reflect military service across different generations, including veterans connected to national and local history.

Children's Burials

Quiet and sensitive areas

Some sections include smaller markers or family lots connected to infant and child burials. Visitors are asked to approach these areas with additional care and privacy.

Later Additions

Newer interments

More recent sections may have flatter markers, clearer alignment, and easier navigation for those locating contemporary burials.

Access Routes

Paths and maintenance lanes

Internal circulation routes help visitors reach sections while supporting grounds maintenance. Please avoid driving or walking outside designated access areas.

Cemetery Map

A current plot map is available through the office for family inquiries, burial planning, and record searches.

Contact the administrative office at 613-233-9191 or BellsCornersCemetery@hotmail.com for section assistance.

Hours, conduct, and seasonal access

  • Daytime visitation is encouraged during regular seasonal access periods.
  • Winter and early spring conditions may affect path accessibility and maintenance schedules.
  • Parking and stopping areas should be used in a way that preserves access for maintenance and services.
  • Visitors should avoid disturbing monuments, plantings, or nearby memorial items.
  • Pets, if present, should be managed respectfully and in accordance with local expectations for cemetery grounds.

Office support for plot visits

If you are travelling to the cemetery from outside Ottawa or trying to locate a burial tied to an older family lot, contact the office before visiting. Staff and volunteers can often provide the most efficient section reference, any current seasonal advisories, and notes about access conditions.
